Muthaiah Muraleetharan, the Sri Lankan Tamil cricketer who owns the world record holder for most number of Test wickets and who retired from active cricket a few years back, has described India’s Ravichandran Ashwin as the best off-spinner in world cricket at this very moment.
It may be recalled that Ashwin took 8 wickets against Sri Lanka in India’s massive 2nd Test win at Nagpur on Monday, thus becoming the fastest in the world to take 300 wickets.
In doing so, Ashwin also beat legendary Australian pace bowler Dennis Lillee’s record of taking 300 wickets in 56 matches by taking 2 matches less to reach the remarkable feat.
"I wish Ashwin well for the future. He is the best in the business now; he is not in the team for the ODIs but I’m sure he would soon be included," Murali said. Commenting on ‘rest’ given to Indian captain Virat Kohli by the BCCI, Murali said Kohli might have become tired of ‘amassing victories’ in a heap in the recent past.
