German sportswear brand Adidas recently cut ties with American rapper Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) after nearly a decade long partnership with the musician over his controversial remarks which elicited widespread condemnation by several Jewish rights groups.
Kanye West shared a series of anti-Semitic posts on his Instagram and Twitter accounts, leading to both platforms restricting his account for violating guidelines. Confirming that Ye’s products will be pulled from sale with immediate effect, Adidas stated, “Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech. Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”
Besides Adidas, JP Morgan, Gap, Foot Locker, Balenciaga, Donda Sports, and Def Jam Records ended their relationship with the rapper as well. Meanwhile, Ye’s ex-wife and TV personality Kim Kardashian condemned him for the remarks and said, “Hate speech is never OK or excusable. I stand together with the Jewish community and call on the terrible violence and hateful rhetoric towards them to come to an immediate end.” Kim Kardashian announced her separation from Ye in early 2021, months after he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
