In a major development, Malayalam superstar Dileep has been fully acquitted today (December 8, 2025) by the Ernakulam Sessions Court in the sensational 2017 actress kidnapping and sexual assault case.

The court ruled that there was insufficient evidence to prove the prosecution’s charges against Dileep (accused no. 8) and three others. However, prime accused Pulsar Suni (Sunil Kumar) and five others were found guilty. Their sentencing will be pronounced on a later date.

The incident dates back to February 17, 2017, when a prominent Malayalam actress was abducted while travelling in her car and subjected to sexual assault by a gang allegedly led by Pulsar Suni. During interrogation, Suni claimed the crime was carried out as part of a conspiracy orchestrated by Dileep due to personal enmity with the actress. Dileep was arrested in July 2017 and spent months in Aluva sub-jail before being granted bail.

The trial lasted over 4½ years, involving extensive examination of witnesses, digital evidence, and memory cards. Dileep had moved the Kerala High Court in 2018 seeking a CBI probe, but the plea was dismissed.

Key highlights of today’s verdict:

  • Dileep and three co-accused fully acquitted due to lack of conclusive evidence linking them to the conspiracy.
  • Pulsar Suni and five others convicted on charges including kidnapping, assault, criminal conspiracy, and destruction of evidence.

Fans of Dileep gathered outside the court in large numbers and burst into celebrations following the verdict, chanting “Justice has been served.” Meanwhile, the survivor’s legal team has indicated the possibility of filing an appeal against the acquittal.

After eight long years, one of Malayalam cinema’s biggest controversies has reached a significant turning point with Dileep walking free.
