Renowned for his performance in "The Family Affaire," Zac Efron suffered a swimming pool mishap in Ibiza that resulted in a temporary hospital stay. Efron had a "minor swimming incident" at a villa on August 2 and spent the night in hospital under precaution. His spokesman verified he is "fine" and that he was released the next morning.
TMZ first said that two villa staff members had discovered Efron in the pool after dragging him out. Efron's team did not go into more detail regarding the cause. According to accounts from August 5 and 6, Efron went too far and struck his chest on the bottom of the pool while swimming with pals, swallowing water. His discomfort was spotted by the villa's security guards, who assisted him out of the pool.
Temporarily confused, Efron was sent to the hospital for X-rays to check his lungs were free of water. To evade cameras, he stayed a little longer at the hospital.
Efron thanked Instagram followers on August 4 for their "well wishes." He assured everyone he is "happy and healthy," then showed pictures of a shirtless workout. His pal Caleb Davidge also uploaded a photo of them together. Efron has been vacationing in Europe after having a hectic year with movies including "Ricky Stanicky" and "The Iron Claw." He was on stage at Ushuaïa Ibiza Hotel and Beach Club alongside DJ Martin Garrix before the incident.
When Efron thought back on earlier injuries, he remembered a 2013 accident he broke his jaw falling in his house. Though internet rumors regarding plastic surgery abound, Efron has credited changes in his appearance to his recuperation process and metamorphosis for roles like that of a wrestler in "The Iron Claw."
Efron says in a 2022 Men's Health interview that he does not let public impressions of his appearance define his profession.
