A woman from Bhopal was allegedly set ablaze by her in-laws after she gave birth to a girl, according to a complaint filed by the girl’s parents.
The victim, identified as 20-year-old Ayushi Sahu, was reportedly brought to the hospital by her in-laws on February 7 after she suffered severe burns. Having remained in a critical condition for another week, she died on February 14. Following Ayushi’s death, her parents filed a complaint with the police holding Ayushi’s husband, her sister-in-law, and mother-in-law responsible for their daughter’s death. They claimed that the family had always wanted a boy and that they even took her to a private hospital in Bairagarh where she was administered an injection to “ensure she would have a son.” When Ayushi gave birth to a baby girl in January 2019, the trio was apparently furious and taunted her for the same.
An FIR has been registered at the Talaiya police station, while the accused are on the run. Investigation of the matter is underway.
