Australian professional tennis player, Ash Barty, who is currently ranked number 1 in the world by the Women’s Tennis Association, has announced her engagement to long-term boyfriend Garry Kissick.
Ash Barty shared the news on her Instagram handle, which garnered thousands of comments congratulating the couple. “Future husband,” the Tennis star captioned her post and shared a picture of herself embracing her fiancé with the engagement ring visible. Ash Barty met Garry Kissick, an aspiring professional golfer, at the Brooklands Golf Club in Queensland in 2016.
The couple began dating not long after and went public with their relationship in 2017 when they attended the John Newcombe Awards together. Fellow Tennis players Simona Halep, Julia Georges, Storm Sanders, Matt Ebden, Jennifer Brady, Storm Sanders, Caroline Wozniacki and Caroline Garcia, among others, wished Ash Barty and Garry Kissick the best on their engagement.
Barty had announced late last month that she was withdrawing from all remaining tournaments this year to focus on the Australian Open 2022. “I wanted to let everyone know that I won’t be competing in any further tournaments in 2021, including the WTA Finals in Mexico. It was a difficult decision but I need to prioritise my body and my recovery from our 2021 season and focus on having the strongest pre-season for the Australian summer,” her statement read.
