Congress president Rahul Gandhi has stated that he and his party won’t let Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘sleep peacefully’ till farmers’ loans across the country are waived completely.
Speaking to newsmen at Parliament complex, Rahul said that the Congress and other opposition parties would pressurize the Prime Minister to waive off agriculturalloans availed by farmers across the country. “We won’t let him sleep peacefully till our demands are met and the loans are waived off,” Rahul asserted.
“The Prime Minister had two choices before him: one was the demonetization move and the other was waiving of farmers’ loans. Modi took up domonetization and had distributed to his industrialist friends the profits he accrued through this move. Four-and-a-half years have gone by since he took over in 2014 but Modi has so far not said anything about waiving farmers’ loans.
“We had waived farmers’ loans within six hours of taking over in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and would soon be doing so in Chhattisgarh as well. However, Modi seems to be either hesitant or scared in doing so; we are not sure as to what makes him feel so scared. Whatever might be the reason, let him come to Parliament and reply to us.
“As the Prime Minister, he owes an explanation to the nation in this regard. If farmers’ loans across the country are not waived, it would be taken care of by the Congress soon after we emerge victorious in next year’s Parliamentary elections,” Rahul concluded.
