Women’s Commission serves notice on Pawan Kalyan

Recently, in a political speech, Pawan Kalyan said that he has married thrice but only legally. He justified his personal choices by saying that he had given alimony to his first two wives as mandated by the law.

The news is that, on Saturday, the Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission served the actor-politician a notice for making the remarks. As per the Commission, the remarks are disparaging towards the women, as they normalize divorces.

The Commission noted that it’s wrong on the part of the Jana Sena leader to ask others to divorce their wives if they are capable. “I gave my previous wives crores in alimony. If you have it in you, you too can do the same,” the Commission quotes Pawan as saying.

“Is it a normal thing to be casually talked about in public? Won’t it promote a culture of insecurity among women?” the Commission asked, seeking an explanation from the ‘Bheemla Nayak’ actor.

The Commission added that it has received multiple complaints from women so far. It demanded that Pawan issue an apology.

Meanwhile, Jana Sena Party officially said that no activist or spokesperson should react to the notice. “The party will issue an official statement soon,” it added
