Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister Jayakumar, one of the most vocal Cabinet Ministers of the Edapadi K. Palaniswami-led AIADMK Govt. in the State, has asseted that the arrested Virudhunagar-based Math professor Nirmala Devi won’t be spared and won’t be allowed to escape from the clutches of law for giving ‘sex-for-marks’ offer to poor girl students.
Speaking to newsmen yesterday, Jayakumar said that whosoever was responsible or who prompted Nirmalai Devi to make the ‘heinous’ offer to poor girl students won’t be spared. “The AIADMK regime in the State is functioning on the basis of a federal set up at the Centre and self-rule in the State. Our alliance with the BJP-led Centre is not political in nature but is merely official relationship between two Governments.
“We would look into S.Ve. Shekhar’s remarks to consider whether he should be arrested and if so, we would soon initiate action. Nirmala Devi has committed a huge crime and she and whosoever supported her won’t be spared by the long arm of the law. CB-CID inquiry has already started in the case and the interrogation is proceeding in just the right direction,” he said.
On another note, he said that the State Govt. welcomed the Centre’s decision to award capital punishment of death to child-rape accused.
