'Akhil', the action fantasy film, marked Akhil Akkineni's debut. Released in 2015, its failure was not only depressing but also colossal, resulting in humongous losses.
In his latest interview, director VV Vinayak revealed that he slipped into a 'mental' mindset in the wake of its disastrous run. "The budget of the film exceeded our initial estimates. By the time of the movie's theatrical release, even the CG work was not properly done. Distributors lost their monies heavily. In order to make good their losses, I mediated between them and an elder who compensated their losses to an extent. It's not about the quantum of financial losses. What pained me the most is that I failed Akhil, who had trusted me so much," Vinayak said.
Recently, in an interview, writer Kona Venkat revealed that he and several others had advised Vinayak not to take up a fantasy action subject. "I knew for sure that it won't work. Vinayak was super-confident, though," Venkat revealed.
'Akhil' was produced by actor Nithiin and his father, Sudhakar Reddy.
