DMDK's Vijaya Prabhakaran today filed her nomination papers with the District Returning Officer and Collector VP Jeyaseelan for the next Lok Sabha election, along with Congress candidate Manickam Tagore and the sitting MP and DMK alliance. Meanwhile, BJP candidate Raadhika Sarathkumar also filed her nominations.
Tagore had spoken to the media after filing his nomination on Monday afternoon about how this 2024 Lok Sabha election would be pivotal in saving the democracy of the country. "This election is very crucial to saving the country from the clutches of fascism," he further added. He said that recent events have taken the form of the arrests of two sitting Chief Ministers, freezing the bank accounts of Congress.
He criticized the Union government for targeting cases against opposition leaders falsely by using the Enforcement Directorate. He also pointed out the delay in executing the railway project and the construction of AIIMS, among others, for the Virudhunagar constituency.
Talking about his efforts in the business of the cracker in Thoothukudi, Tagore expressed his displeasure with the way the government responded. He said that the block in India would work out if it came into power.
In a sarcastic tone, Tagore expressed his pride in being the only MP from Tamil Nadu to face three suspensions for opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Speaking about his opponents from Virudhjsonagar, Tagore said that the voters would base decisions on principle rather than professions.
Meanwhile, Raadhika thanked the BJP for providing her with an opportunity to contest. She also said that she is content and trusts her party. She said that she had some personal relationship with Vijayaprabhakaran in a way, acting like a father figure, due to his friendship with her daughter.
