The forthcoming third chapter in the Venom superhero series won't be hitting theaters next summer as originally anticipated.
Sony and Marvel had slated the untitled film for a July 12, 2024 release, but a recent announcement by Sony on Wednesday shifted the release date to November 8, 2024.
The alteration followed the recent agreement between SAG-AFTRA and studios and streamers on a new three-year contract after a prolonged 118-day actors' strike.
Production for the Venom sequel had commenced in late June in Spain, but like many other films, it was halted the subsequent month due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, commencing on July 14. The revised release date to November allows for additional time to finalize shooting and complete post-production tasks. Furthermore, Sony has secured slots in Imax and premium-format screens for the film.
The third installment features Tom Hardy reprising his role as the formidable protector Venom, directed by Kelly Marcel. Marcel and Hardy jointly crafted the screenplay with Marcel also contributing to the story. The production is in the hands of Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Kelly Marcel, Tom Hardy, and Hutch Parker.
Joining the franchise are new cast members Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The plot specifics have been largely kept under wraps.
Venom 3 is part of a slew of films that have experienced release date changes due to the extended writers' and actors' strikes. Sony's Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Kraven the Hunter have also seen rescheduled release dates amidst these industry-wide challenges.
