Hailing from Cuddalore, Vinod Kumar, a spokesperson of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), was arrested yesterday by the police for maligning State BJP president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on his Facebook posting.
Tamils have been in the news for the past few days ever since she objected to some sequences/dialogues in actor Vijay’s latest film Mersal which criticizes the BJP-ruled Centre’s flagship schemes such as ‘Digital India’, etc. besides being critical of GST and the demonetization drive.
A complaint was filed on Tamilisai’s behalf with the police stating that she had been receiving death threats on her mobile phone and that she has been criticized badly on social networking sites. VCK cadres interrupted the BJP’s working council meeting held recently in Karur and it was left to the local police to prevent a clash between the cadres of the two parties.
In the meantime, acting on a complaint, the Cuddalore police took into custody VCK’s spokesperson Vinod Kumar for spreading maligning information about Tamilisai on his Facebook postings. Police informed that they checked the version on networking sites before taking action against Vinod Kumar.
