Former Indian cricketer V. B. Chandrasekhar committed suicide by hanging himself in his house in Mylapore, Chennai. The police recovered his body and shifted to Royopettah hospital where postmortem was done. Initial reports suggest that losses in business drove him to take the extreme step. He ran a cricket academy in Chennai and was also an official in Chennai Super Kings and was instrumental in bringing M.S. Dhoni into the team.
V.B. Chandrasekhar played only seven one day internationals for India but was a prolific run scorer for Tamil Nadu opening the innings with Krishnamachari Srikanth. Srikanth, Harbajhan Singh and other cricketers have paid tribute to the Departed soul.
As said by investigating officer Senthil Murugan the veteran cricketer had not left any suicide note, and as said by his wife Soumya, Chandrasekhar had tea with the family at 5:45 before leaving to his room, and later when she knocked his room there was no response and as she peeped through the window, found him hanging from the ceiling. Reportedly, he had incurred huge losses from his cricket business, as said by Soumya.
Chandrasekhar owned a cricket team in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, Kanchi Veerans, and also ran VB's nest a cricket academy. Chandrasekhar had played 7 ODIs for Indian national team, and was a member of the Tamil Nadu Ranji trophy winning team in 1987. He also played for Goa, and was a coach, commentator and a national selector, and was active till the last game of TNPL. He gained fame with his 56 ball 100 in the Irani trophy in 1988, which was the fastest century by an Indian in first class cricket, which Rishabh Pant broke in 2016. His financial crisis was due to his involvement in TNPL, as he had invested 3 crores on Kanchi Veeran team, and the loan had lead to notice from bank, and he had also mortgaged his house.
