The UK has been in the grip of a political crisis. Over the past few days, as many as 51 ministers/aides have resigned. Moreover, three cabinet ministers called it quits.
Facing uncertainty, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also resigned a while ago. AFP reported that Johnson had resigned as leader of Britain's Conservative party, paving the way for the selection of a new prime minister after dozens of ministers quit his scandal-hit government.
"There should be a new leader of the party, and therefore a new Prime Minister," Johnson said in his speech. "I am immensely proud of my achievements, I will continue till a new leader is in place," he added.
Earlier today, Caroline Lucas, Green MP for Brighton Pavilion, wrote, "Boris Johnson is being forced to resign for being unfit for office as a reckless, untrustworthy, lying, law-breaking rogue Prime Minister with no regard for rule of law or our democratic systems. He must not be allowed to stay on for 3 months after resigning and must go now."
