A government hospital in Coimbatore has been accused by the parents of a 2-year-old girl who has allegedly been transfused with HIV positive blood. The hospital, however, has denied the parents’ claims, stating that they have all the medical records pertaining to the case and that they are willing to be inquired on the matter.
The HIV infected child’s father reportedly said, “She was admitted in this hospital last July and was later discharged after transfusion. She developed complications and later tests showed her to be HIV positive.” Denying the allegations, the Dean of the Coimbatore government hospital responded, “We dismiss the allegations. She could have been HIV infected after treatment at some other hospital. We have given all medical records related to her. We expect state government officials to come for inquiry. We are ready.”
A pregnant woman from Tamil Nadu contracted HIV after she was given infected blood at a Government Hospital in Sattur earlier in December.
