One should say that director S.A. Chandrasekhar achieved a double whammy by helming the 1997 super hit 'Once More'. He had long nurtured the dream of directing Sivaji Ganesan for a long time and he also wanted son Vijay to get the rare opportunity of working with the legend. Both the dreams of SAC were realised with the film which consists of many interesting trivia.
It took a lot of convincing to get Sivaji to don the grease paint as he was enjoying his retirement by playing with his grand children. The producer of 'Once More' is director C.V. Rajendran who had a long association with Sivaji having directed many of his films starting with 'Galatta Kalyanam' released in 1968.
The film also marked the reunion of hit pair Sivaji and Saroja Devi after many decades and for the flashback portions, sequences from the duo's 1963 hit 'Iruvar Ullam' was used.
Vijay was just finding his foothold as a leading hero at that time and he is one of the lucky stars of his generation to share screenspace with Sivaji. The Thalapathy surprised many critics by showing utmost confidence in handling his scenes with the Nadigar Thilagam.
'Once More' was the first film in which Vijay and Simran acted together and went on to become a popular pair thereafter. It was also a rare opportunity for the younger generation mass hero to act with another legend Saroja Devi. The film became a commercial success and has also found its place in history for the rare combo of Sivaji and Vijay superstars from different eras.
