Thala Ajith's 'Vivegam' has taken a gigantic opening across the world and the next three holidays are already sold out in all the centers. Firstly Sathyajyothi Films have to be congratulated for believing in 'Vivegam' script and pumping in the huge money, every rupee of it showing onscreen in grandeur and very high production values. Director Siva, music director Anirudh, cinematographer Vetri, editor Ruben, art director Milan and stunt choreographer Ganesh with his overseas partners have truly placed Tamil cinema on the world pedestal by their extraordinary efforts.
Lets face the fact that James Bond is the most popular swashbuckling hero in the world and here we take a look at how 'Vivegam' has matched every element that a Bond movie boasts of.
- Every Bond movie will have an opening sequence in which an undercover 007 using gadgets will bust an enemy hideout and the resultant high octane snow bike chase which will climax after a risky jump fading out to the famous title animation. 'Vivegam' has the exact opening sequence.
- A bike chase with a female pillion rider is a Bond movie staple and here we have Thala and Akshara Haasan in a nerve racking one.
- An operation in the night time followed by a dangerous chase sequence complete with jumps and crashes leaving Bond unhurt has been well incorporated by Siva.
- Bond will every time prove to you that he is more than his guns and is equally adept with knives and swords and here we have Thala slashing off with a woman and man even as trains are speeding on both sides in a subway.
- The British superspy will be in an environment where virtual reality, high end computer hacking and safe houses will amaze you and that's exactly what Siva and team have given to Tamil cinema for the first time.
- One of the Bond girls is usually a damsel in distress who is not what she seems and Akshara Haasan is your desi answer to that.
- Long distance sniper shots not withstanding Bond, single handed will render any number of henchmen with heavy artillery impotent and Thala with his larger than life persona does even better in these sequences.
- 007 is sometimes defeated and has to hide to recuperate like Daniel Craig in 'Spectre' and here too Thala has to rebuild his energies after a setback due to the traitor.
- The climax hideout of the super criminal Bond villain will definitely house an enormous satellite dish antenna which will activate a weapon of mass destruction and 'Vivegam' obliges that too.
All said and done one can conclude that on the making front Siva and team have ticked every checklist of a James Bond movie. On the story front however one can't help feel like the Tamil superspy wears a perfect tuxedo coat and bow time but ends up wearing a rubber slipper to match.
