Nearly every big star, besides Rajinikanth and Sivakarthikeyan, is yet to have a theatrical release since 2020, and most of the major upcoming Kollywood releases are expected to happen next year.

While it was already reported that Ajith’s Valimai, directed by H Vinoth, is slated for release on Pongal next year, other biggies, including Vikram, Ponniyin Selvan: I and Beast are expected to hit the screens across the world in the subsequent months. Following are the tentative release dates of a few much awaited Kollywood movies.

The action-thriller film, Vikram, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is likely to release on March 31, 2022. Produced by Kamal Haasan under the Raj Kamal Films International banner, Vikram features Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Fahadh Faasil in the lead roles along with Shivani Narayanan, Kalidas Jayaram, Narain, Antony Varghese and Arjun Das in supporting roles. The music of the film is composed by Anirudh.

The epic historical star studded film Ponniyin Selvan, ‪directed and co-produced by Mani Ratnam‬, is expected to hit the screens on April 28, 2022. An adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name, Ponniyin Selvan has an ensemble cast of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Jayaram, Sobhita Dhulipala and Aishwarya Lekshmi. The soundtrack of the film is composed by AR Rahman.

Vijay-starrer Beast, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is arguably one of the most awaited movies of 2022, and the black action comedy film is expected to premiere in the month of May next year. Produced by Sun Pictures, Beast also stars ‪Pooja Hegde, Selvaraghavan, Yogi Babu‬ in pivotal roles. Anirudh, who composed the soundtrack of Master, is the music director of Beast as well.
