Ten reasons why you must watch 'Velaikkaran'
Fans are in a celebratory mood as Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Velaikkaran’ has finally hit the screens. Mohan Raja seems to have delivered yet another film that has a strong social message delivered in his very own style. If you’re wondering if you should catch up with the ‘Velaikkaran’ here are ten reasons why you should:
.Director Mohan Raja: Director Mohan Raja revamped his brand after his successful outing in ‘Thani Oruvan’. His treatment of characters and ethics is a no brainer that makes his story much more credible and strong. ‘Velaikkaran’ has also been given the same moulding so if any you loved the director’s work in ‘Thani Oruvan’, don’t miss ‘Velaikkaran’.
.The other side of Sivakarthikeyan: Though Siva has impressed us with some of his ‘serious’ acts, we mostly remember him for his comic counters and jibes. But ‘Velaikkaran’ has the actor portrayed with brooding, serious and meaningful shades punctuated with a tinge of humour. ‘Velaikkaran’ will be an interesting watch for fans as it will showcase a different Sivakarthikeyan.
.Social content of the film: The film conveys alarming messages about the unregulated rampant consumerism and how capitalists use marketing tactics and mob psychology to their advantage – all this without making you overwhelmed. A film which keeps you hooked despite a heavy load of social message.
.Art Design and Production: It’s apparent that with someone as T.Muthuraj, the film’s art department gets a solid and realistic upgrade. The film’s team had erected a set with actual garbage and props and the way it has come out in the film is a testament to the film’s art department. One could say that the constructed slums look much ‘real’ than actual ones. To sum it up, mise en scene: perfect. And as a producer R.D.Raja has ensured a very high standard giving the film an edge in this department.
.Fahadh Fasil: It is always a bit fun and interesting getting to know Mohan Raja’s antagonists. They usually belong to the elite and are cunning, ambitious knaves who get what they want. So it’s a tad difficult affair to bring such characters alive on the screen. Go watch Fahadh Fasil acing the role with ease and swag.
.Anirudh’s music: Sivakarthikeyan-Anirudh combo has given us numerous hit songs, however ‘Velaikkaran’ utilizes Anirudh to accommodate to the film instead of just dishing out standalone music hits. Theme music and background scores form an integral part of the story’s pace and emotional quotient, and Anirudh once again proves his mettle.
.Commendable cinematography: Ramji as teh lensman for the film has portrayed the setting and the atmosphere of the film in its truest sense. It is a known fact that all art design would have gone unappreciated if the lenswork is compromising. However Ramji has captured it exceptionally : ugly slums, pleasing angles and panning have conglomerated in a high quality lenswork for ‘Velaikkaran’.
.Supporting performances: It is very evident from the start of the film that all the supporting characters in the film have worked faithfully. Special mention must be made of Prakash Raj and Vijay Vasanth’s stellar performances. Rohini and Charlie essay the role of parents to Sivakarthikeyan and dish out a highly believable and raw acting.
.The ensemble cast : When the film’s poster was released, there was much talk about the large cast of the film, if the director would be able to pull it off. But Mohan Raja justifies the number was not just for show but to add value to the story as it demanded such characters. It would be intriguing to watch all the characters blend into the fabric of ‘Velaikkaran’.
.Humour: Though the comedy in the movie is negligible,Siva and Robo Shankar’s jovial FM scenes if not puritan slapstick, do give the film some good-natured humour. Also Sathish and R.J.Balaji’s counters do not fail to get you giggling. Plus, Mohan Raja’s handling of Fahadh’s character when he is hapless is fun and laughable, if you are able to comprehend the director’s sense of humour.
