Telangana IT Minister KTR feels Rashmika’s deep fake video insulting

Rashmika Mandanna’s deepfake video has captured the nation’s attention. As soon as the video surfaced online, numerous celebrities voiced their concerns regarding women’s safety and cybersecurity. Leading the charge, Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, along with other prominent figures, united to condemn this incident.

Union IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar has already pledged to introduce stringent laws aimed at bolstering women’s cybersecurity and ensuring that the culprits face appropriate consequences. Telangana MLC Kavitha also expressed her outrage and called for decisive action.

Moreover, Telangana IT Minister KTR, addressing the issue of Rashmika’s deepfake video at the India Today Telangana Roundtable, shared his perspective. Expressing his concerns, KTR remarked, “I came across the news about the distressing incident involving Rashmika Mandanna. It is truly abhorrent to defame a celebrity like her. Such actions are deeply disrespectful and infuriating. We are prepared to introduce any necessary regulations and stringent legislation in our state to address this issue, and we hope the Government of India will collaborate in this endeavor.”

Rashmika Mandanna became a victim of cybercrime when a video featuring British influencer Zara Patel’s face morphed with the actress’s own began circulating. The video quickly went viral, prompting Rashmika to call for legal action. On November 6, Rashmika Mandanna released her first official statement regarding the deepfake video, highlighting the vulnerability that everyone faces on social media due to the misuse of technology.

Rashmika earlier shared her feelings  saying “I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online. Something like this is honestly, extremely scary not only for me, but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused. (sic)”

She further added, “Today, as a woman and as an actor, I am thankful for my family, friends and well wishers who are my protection and support system. But if this happened to me when I was in school or college, I genuinely can’t imagine how could I ever tackle this. We need to address this as a community and with urgency before more of us are affected by such identity theft. (sic)”

Notably, actors Naga Chaitanya, Mrunal Thakur, Vijay Devarakonda, Chinmayi Sripada, and Sai Dharam Tej have expressed their support. The Telangana Film Journalists Association also met with Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar to demand legal action against those responsible for the deepfake video.
