Taylor Swift has at last addressed the postponement of her Eras Tour gigs in Vienna earlier this month because of a foiled terrorist threat. Swift revealed in an emotional Instagram post her great sadness and anxiety about the canceled gigs.
"Taking the stage in London was an emotional whirl-pool," she wrote. "The cancellements in Vienna were terrible. Knowing so many people had booked those events, the purpose behind them left me feeling guilty and terrified. But I am very appreciative of the authorities; we were grieving concerts, not life.
Swift also pointed out that she hadn't spoken out right away, stressing that her priorities were keeping her fans safe. "Staying quiet in circumstances like this is about timing and restraint," she said. "I was determined to safely finish the European leg of our tour, and it gives me relief to say we succeeded."
Swift was set to perform in Vienna on August 8–10, however the authorities decided to call off the events following two individuals arrested with potential terrorism links. Chemicals found in one suspect's house by Austrian police could have been used to create bombs. Additional protection was originally scheduled, but officials decided the threat was too great.
Barracuda Music, the concert organizer, confirmed the threat and the required cancellements. Swift closed her message with thanks for the Londoners who supported her in order to get her motivated at such a trying period, despite the shock.
