Actor Karthik Kumar made his debut in Mani Ratnam's 'Alaipayuthey' in 2000 and went on to star in 'Vaanam Vasapadum', 'Kanda Naal Mudhal', Yaaradi Nee Mohini' and 'Ninaithaale Inikkum' among others. In 2016 frustrated by lack of opportunities he announced his retirement from acting calling himself a failed actor and has been on the stand-up comedy circuit.

Now Karthik Kumar has announced his debut as director for a new movie which will have veterans K. Bhagyaraj, Pandiarajan, Chinni Jayanth, Manobala and Ambika in the lead roles. The story is about senior citizens who turn super heroes for a couple of children played by Lalith Aditya and Anisha and is produced by Siddharth Anandkumar who bankrolled the recent critically acclaimed 'KD' aka 'Karuppu Durai'.

The shooting started in September and is nearing completion and the film will be out in 2020. Karthik Kumar was married to singer Suchithra but the couple divorced a year ago.
