The Tamil film industry has lost yet another talent in the form of Sevvazhai Rasu who passed away this morning at the age of 70. He is said to have been ailing for the past few months and was admitted to a private hospital in Madurai where he breathed his last.
Rasu is famous for his role as Ponamthinni in Ameer’s cult classic movie ‘Paruthiveeran’ that marked the debut of Karthi. The film which fetched the Best Actress National Award for Priyamani had several comedy scenes featuring Rasu and especially his voice was much imitated by fans.
Rasu belonging to a farming family in Theni served as a Panchayat President in the MGR government and later served as a body guard to both MGR and Jayalalitha. Since he was a distant relative of Bharathiraja the veteran introduced him in his super hit movie ‘Kizhakku Seemaiyile’ . Rasu has acted in close to 20 films including ‘Mynaa’ and ‘Kandasamy’. We join the film industry in condoling his passing away . RIP!
