Naga Babu Supports Women’s Autonomy, Highlights Fundamental Rights

Actor and politician Naga Babu has made a clear and decisive statement against moral policing, asserting that no individual has the authority to dictate how women should dress. Addressing the controversy sparked by actor Sivaji’s remarks on women’s clothing, Naga Babu emphasised that such interference goes against the very spirit of the Indian Constitution.

In a video and a subsequent social media post, Naga Babu strongly underlined that a woman’s choice of clothing is a personal right. He stated that moral policing is unconstitutional and has been repeatedly rejected by Indian courts. Citing Articles 14, 19, and 21, he highlighted that liberty, dignity, privacy, and equality are fundamental rights guaranteed to every citizen.

“Eliminating moral policing is essential for a progressive society,” Naga Babu noted, adding that personal freedom cannot be subjected to individual opinions or social pressure. His remarks reinforced the principle that democratic values and constitutional safeguards must always prevail over regressive mindsets.

Currently serving as an MLC in Andhra Pradesh, Naga Babu is a prominent member of Jana Sena Party, led by his brother Pawan Kalyan. His intervention has drawn appreciation for bringing constitutional clarity to a debate that had generated intense public discussion.

The controversy originated from comments made by Sivaji, who suggested that actresses should dress “decently” in public. While the actor later apologised for his choice of words, his remarks had already triggered widespread reactions from women’s groups, activists, and members of the film industry.

With his statement, Naga Babu has added a strong constitutional perspective to the conversation, reaffirming support for women’s rights and personal freedom, and steering the discourse toward principles of equality and dignity enshrined in law.
