In the wake of the rising number of Coronavirus positive cases in the city, the Chennai police has introduced a robot cop to assist people living in containment areas. The robot is controlled with a remote control and is equipped with a mounted camera for surveillance.

The robot has been named Robot Cop LD v5.0 and was first deployed in Meenambal Puram Street which is a containment zone in Mylapore with 11 COVID-19 cases. The machine features a two-way intercom for making announcements and for observing communication from the public.

The Robot Cop has an LED display to display messages. As said by police officers, since they can't ente interior areas, earlier drones were used for making announcements, and this Robot was built in 4 days by police department in association with Robothoughts, SCI Fi Innovation and Callidai Motorworks.
