Pooja Hegde Requests Karthik Subbaraj for a Female Gangster Film

At the music launch event of the upcoming Tamil film Retro, actress Pooja Hegde shared her experience working with actor Suriya. The film, directed by Karthik Subbaraj and featuring music by Santhosh Narayanan, had its audio release event yesterday (April 18, 2025) in Chennai.

Pooja expressed her gratitude to Tamil cinema, saying, “This is only my third Tamil film, but I have always received immense love from the audience. This is my second audio launch event, and I thank the Tamil film industry for giving me this opportunity.”

Talking about her character in Retro, she said, “Thank you, Karthik sir, for casting me as Rukmini. I hope I did justice to the role. I’ve noticed how you find beauty in even the simplest things. You’ve written many gangster stories – maybe next time, write a female gangster film,” she added with a smile.

On her experience with Suriya, she said, “Working with Suriya sir was truly inspiring. His eyes are so expressive. I even saw fan-made Reels on the track ‘Kanima’—they’re all beautifully done. Suriya sir always keeps a special filter coffee with him, and during tired moments, he would generously share it with all of us.”

The event was attended by the film’s team, including Suriya and Karthik Subbaraj. The music launch marked an important milestone for the film as well as for Pooja, reinforcing her growing presence in Tamil cinema.
