A lab based in Pune has invented India's first test kit for COVID-19. It's a molecular diagnostics company named Mylab Discovery Solutions Pvt Ltd. Reports say that the kit has already received commercial approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).
What makes the invention a matter of pride is that Mylab is the only Indian company to have achieved 100 percent sensitivity and specificity in the Indian Council of Medical Research evaluation, a report by Business Today says.
"This is such a good news. The kits take 2.5 hours in detection. And currently they can produce 1 lakh test in a week, which can be increased. Currently, India is sourcing kits from Germany & need more kits," says Parveen Kaswan, an IFS officer.
Remarkably, it took just six weeks for the lab to invent the kit. Each kit can test six persons. "It was developed and evaluated in record time, that too as per the most stringent guidelines of the World Health Organization and US CDC," a report says.
