Reservations: Rahul Gandhis move to win womens votes

Rahul Gandhi has penned a letter to Congress chief ministers, asking them to introduce resolutions in their respective state assemblies for demanding the passage of women's reservation bill in Parliament in the upcoming Winter session. Earlier this month, Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik had written a letter to Narendra Modi making a similar request.

"The lack of adequate representation of women in our polity affects our democracy," the Congress president has written in the now-famous letter.

At a time when Congress is projected to win Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh assemblies (vote counting scheduled to be held on December 11), the move by Rahul makes political sense. He is expecting to win women's votes by rooting for 33 percent reservations in Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

In principle, BJP, TDP, DMK and BJD support this cause.
