There has been widespread support from Tamil Nadu for the release of the seven convicts including Perarivaalan in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. Political parties have even promised their release in their election manifestos for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Tamil Nadu byelections as well. However the BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramaniyam Swamy in his latest interview has stated with finality that his party will never allow the release of the seven who breached the National Security by aiding the murderers of a leader who came from a foreign land (Sri Lanka).
When the interviewer questioned that some BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu had stated that they would insist on the release of the convicts Swamy replied that it is a bogus promise made for the election campaign but they will never work towards it.
