Chinmayi is a strong advocate against sexual crimes against women ever since on October 18th 2018, she alleged veteran lyricist Vairamuthu of abusing her in her teens. She is one of the pioneers of the Me Too Movement in South Indian cinema and now many common women too have joined her in her crusade against preying men.
Chinmayi has slammed world renowned Chilean poet Pablo Neruda who has written in his memoirs that during a visit to Sri Lanka he had raped his Tamil maid though he later regretted it.
Chinmayi has written on social media "Got to know today that celebrated poet Pablo Neruda raped his Tamil housekeeper when he was in Sri Lanka as a diplomat and wrote about it in his memoirs. Source - Memoirs of Pablo Neruda. A version of that happens today when ‘machans’ gather and talk about how many or how ‘correct’ a ‘figure’. (Tamil) Which ‘figure’ is easy If you don’t speak Tamil you wouldn’t understand it. A woman is a ‘figure’ to ‘correct’. Or a women is an object for ‘padeyadam’.
The multiple award winning singer has added "A Nobel Prize Winner could write in his memoir that he raped a woman. And still be regarded as one of the greats. And people whine BUT WOMEN ARE EVERYWHERE!! WHY DO YOU NEED FEMINISM??? Well. You’d be surprised how many ‘great men’ are sex offenders."
According to author Charis McGowan "Pablo Neruda, was the Chilean Nobel Prize-winning poet who became a symbol of resistance for the people of Latin America. Che Guevera read Neruda's poem to his first lover when he was 17 and later throughout his life, would carry Neruda's poetry with him.". Well his actions were not that noble were they and he still is revered in spite of hurting a maid in the cruelest way one could.
