Asaduddin Owaisi of the AIMIM has on Tuesday come to the defence of Kamal Haasan, who had called Nathuram Godse a “Hindu terrorist”.
“The person who killed Mahatma Gandhi should be called a terrorist. Would we call him a Mahatma or Rakshasa, terrorist or assassin? The one whose role as a conspirator was proved in Kapur commission report, you would call him a great man or ‘neech’?” Owaisi said to a news agency.
Importantly, the Hyderabadi political heavyweight has not used the word “Hindu”. The bone of contention in Kamal’s remarks is that he ascribed a religious identity to Gandhi’s assassin. Owaisi has not done such a thing. That’s the key difference.
Meanwhile, Kamal’s long-time friend and actor-politician Rajinikanth has refused to comment on the issue in Mumbai, where he is shooting for ‘Darbar’.
