Biopic dramas are always hot in trade among the Indian audience. Following the success of inspirational stories of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Sachin: A Billion Dreams and '83, now a biopic has been made on the magical Indian spinner, who carved history by playing IPL directly at the age of 41.
Director Jayprad Desai has helmed the biopic of the oldest IPL player, Pravin Tambe, without playing Ranji Trophy until then. Tambe made his IPL debut at the age of 41 for Rahul Dravid-led Rajasthan Royals with only playing club cricket. Today, the trailer of 'Kaun Pravin Tambe?' was launched by Disney Plus Hotstar, which is set to stream the film from April 1.
The 3-minute-long video opens with Rahul Dravid's monologue about Tambe, "I just like to share the story of someone I had the privilege to play with and getting to know in the last couple of years. A lot of times people come here and expect me to Tendulkar and Laxman and Ganguly and Kumble. But the story I like to tell is... is about Pravin tambe."
Pravin Tambe's extraordinary journey is about a right-armed leg spinner, who made his biggest cricket league debut at the age of 41, not having played any international or even first-class cricket before that. We see glimpses of the hardships and turns that his life took before he made it to one of the world's biggest T20 tournaments.
Pravin Tambe is a prolific leg spinner who was picked by Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2012 auction, overlooking the fact that he was over 40 years old. The player, who played a lot of Dr HD Kanga Memorial Cricket League, was also named in the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team as well in 2012. Marathi-Hindi actor Shreyas Talpade has played the titular role with Ashish Vidyarthi, Parambrata Chatterjee and Anjali Patil in pivotal roles.
