Electric vehicles are becoming hot in the trade as the nation is facing a drastic rise in fuel prices and the world is suffering from global warming. While the leading automobile companies are launching premium electric cars, Ola has launched their first electric scooter with the Ola S1 series in India today.
The electric scooter launched in two variants – the Ola S1 which will be available in five colours and the Ola S1 Pro, a more powerful variant that will be available in 10 colours. These include Red, Sky Blue, Yellow, Silver, Gold, Pink, Black, Navy Blue, Grey and White.
The two models will be available for purchase this September and deliveries are set to begin in October. The buyers can reserve their vehicle for ₹500 at Ola Electric website. The Ola S1 starts at Rs 99,999 and the S1 Pro starts at Rs 1,29,999. However, state subsidies could mean you could get the two electric scooters for cheaper in regions like Delhi and Maharashtra.
The Ola S1 packs a 2.9kWh battery pack and delivers 8.5kW peak power. The battery can be charged in about 6 hours with a 750W portable charger or up to 50% using an Ola Supercharger in just 18 minutes. Meanwhile, the Ola S1 Pro also comes with an 8.5kW motor but features a larger 3.9kW battery. The S1 Pro also gets a ‘Hyper’ riding mode in addition to the Normal and Sport riding modes.
The Ola S1 Electric Scooter has a claimed top speed of 90 km/h and has a claimed range of 121 km on a full charge. Ola Electric claims that the S1 can go from 0-40 km/h in 3.6 seconds. The higher-spec Ola S1 Electric Scooter, which costs about Rs 30,000 more than the base model Ola S1, has a claimed top speed of 115 km/h and a claimed range of 181 km on a full charge. This claims to be able to do 0-40 km/h in 3 seconds.
The Ola Electric scooter will come with three riding modes on offer - Normal, Sport and Hyper. With Normal mode being the most relaxed one and Hyper mode being the quickest one. The Sport mode will sit in the middle. The Ola Electric S1 comes with disc brakes both at the front and at the back and gets a mono-shock suspension on both sides as well.
This scooter comes with a touchscreen system. The size of the touchscreen instrument cluster is 7 inches. Ola says that this is the brightest screen in the segment. One of the key highlights of the Ola S1 is, it comes with 4G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. The instrument cluster comes with 3 GB of RAM and is powered by an Octa-Core processor.
The Ola Electric Scooter can be unlocked in three ways - through the app on your smartphone, through the scooter's screen or through walking close to it. The vehicle will be locked if the master walks away from it. The Ola Electric Scooter will also come with "Moods" which will alter the display of the scooter and also, change the way the scooter sounds.
