Not all dialogues getting applause in theatres might be good: Tamilisai

Tamil Nadu BJP president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has stated that not all dialogues, which get applauded by the movie-going public in cinema halls, can be termed as ‘good’ for the society.

Tamilisai’s comments assume significance in the backdrop of the popular dialogues in actor Vijay’s Deepavali release Mersal which are critical of both the State and Central Governments as they openly attack the demonetization drive and the uniform tax regime GST. The ruling BJP at the Centre hasn’t taken kindly to this and its dissatisfaction is revealed by its State Unit.

The BJP has appealed to the film’s producer to consider deleting such sequences which are critical of the Centre’s ‘Digital India’ project, GST tax regime and last year’s demonetization drive.  Speaking to newsmen in Chennai yesterday, Tamilisai said that if the makers talk about freedom of expression in saying anything on-screen, the same ‘freedom of expression’ applies to us too in criticizing the makers for these dialogues.

“Not all the dialogues which are lauded and applauded by the people in cinema halls can be termed as ‘great’; they might fit the particular backdrop in the film’s script and can’t be universal in nature,” she said. Turning her attention to Kamal Haasan, she took a dig at Kamal saying that the latter had many reasons to seek apology from people other than for his initial support to the Centre’s demonetization drive.
