Natural Star Nani was on Friday accused of backtracking on his word at the general body meeting of the Telangana Theatres Association. Here is what happened. A couple of distributors/exhibitors said that Nani has let 'Tuck Jagadish' bypass theatres. The family entertainer has been sold by the producers of the movie to Amazon Prime, which is planning to release it on its streaming platform on September 10.
The distributors suggested that Nani is not sincere about supporting the health of theatres at a time when the theatres are in dire straits. They almost questioned Nani's intentions, and even suggested that he has only self-interest in mind.
But Nani has come in for support from a large section of Netizens. "How can the actor be targeted? He has no stakes in how 'Tuck Jagadish' should be marketed and released. When even the likes of Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan have no option these days, what do they expect Nani to do?" Nani's supporters are asking.
But the distributors seem to be suggesting that 'Tuck Jagadish' is the first pandemic-time major OTT release that is coming out on OTT when theatres are functioning normally. Even Venkatesh's 'Narappa' came out when theatres were mostly shut down.
It's understandable that Nani is gaining sympathy over the criticism against him. Above all, he has no film background or godfather and is self-made.
