In anticipation of the new wave, the BMC has started building four brand new jumbo covid centres in the capital city of Maharashtra. The jumbos will take Mumbai's dashboard from 22,000 beds to more than 30,000 by the end of this month, he said.
Mumbai's ICU beds have been increased from 1,500 to 3,000, he added. "We are trying to bring that up to 4,000 by June," the Commissioner said.
If vaccine stocks are available in adequate quantities, Mumbai will vaccinate almost everyone before the third wave hits, he clarified.
