42-year-old teacher arrested for sexually assaulting teenager

A coaching class teacher was arrested in Mumbai on January 2 after he was accused of molestation and sexual harassment by a former student.

The 15-year-old girl had joined the coaching classes in May 2016. She was apparently asked by the teacher to sit at the back bench, where he would allegedly grope her inappropriately. This continued for days, but the girl did not report the incident to her parents, fearing that her classes would be terminated right before her SSC exams. When she left the coaching center post her exams, she decided to let go of the issue and never brought it up. However, when she learned that her parents were contemplating joining her younger sister in the same center for coaching, she made up her mind and made the revelation to her parents, who immediately filed a complaint against the teacher at a local police station.

Following the complaint, an FIR has been filed on the accused and he has been booked under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
