State Fisheries Minister Jayakumar has strongly condemned BJP national secretary H. Raja’s tweets against DMK’s Rajya Sabha M.P. Kanimozhi wherein the former had reportedly described the latter as an ‘illegitimate child’ of DMK president Karunanidhi.
Widespread protests have erupted against Raja across the State as the DMK cadres are either burning Raja’s effigies or putting on ‘garlands of slippers’ on his effigies. Critics are not sure as to what Raja, who has a knack of getting into and out of controversies at regular intervals, would do this time to bail himself out of that he had gotten himself into.
Raja’s tweets humiliating Karunanidhi, his wife Rajathi and Kanimozhi surfaced more than three days back. Commenting on this, Jayakumar said that passing humiliating remarks against a woman in public is never acceptable. “By saying so, I shouldn’t be seen as supporting Kanimozhi. Whomsoever it is, women ought to be respected at home and outside and as such, Raja’s remarks were uncalled for,” he remarked.
Even BJP’s Tamil Nadu Unit president Tamilisai Soundrarajan had gone public stating that she wasn’t supporting Raja’s tweets about Kanimozhi. “I’m not going to say anything about Raja or Kanimozhi as it’s an issue between the DMK and the BJP. However, I’m against humiliating women anywhere,” Jayakumar concluded.
