Manorama

unavoidable comedienne cum character artis of the black and white era, Manorama gradually transformed as the
quintessential mother artist of Tamil cinema in late 1980s and 90s. She has acted in diversified mother roles in a

‘Mahanadhi’ in which she is the mother-in-law but a mother like figure for Kamal Haasan.
Sujatha
Though she made her debut as a heroine, Sujatha very soon shifted to matured
characters and turned out to be the best fit for calm and caring mother characters of Tamil cinema in the 1990s. Her
performance as the mother of Superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan with whom she had acted as heroine during her
initial years and also in several other small budget films of the 90s, were well received by the audience.
Srividya
Srividya is considered to be one of the most beautiful actresses Tamil cinema has
ever seen. But she did not make it big as a heroine or at least as much as she did with character roles. She has

dignified performances as the mother in super hit films like ‘Singaravelan.’
Kamala Kamesh
