With crisis at its peak, Edapadi Palanisami's Government proved majority in terms of numbers in the chaos packed floor test on Saturday.
Speaker P. Dhanapal had expelled the prime opposition party including its leader M K Stalin after they created a ruckus in the House. The House, after being adjourned a few times, ran the trust vote without DMK. 122 MLAs favored Palanisami, paving his way to become the Chief Minister of TN.
While the OPS camp wanted a secret ballot, and the DMK insisted a postponement of the floor test, both of which were denied by the speaker, after which the assembly turned into a mayhem.
On behalf of DMK, Stalin had challenged the vote of confidence in the assembly at the Madras High Court. The Court's hearing on the plea will take place tomorrow. Stalin is also set to meet the President on the 23rd of this month.
