More than six weeks after the demise of Ariyalur S. Anitha, the High Court of Madras has ordered an inquiry into her demise.
Anitha’s suicide on 01st September turned the State into a battlefield with youths and students coming out in the open seeking justice for her demise. Anitha, a 17-year old student and an MBBS aspirant, took her life by hanging from the roof of her Ariyalur residence after she failed to get through the mandatory National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) to pursue her dream of getting admission to MBBS course.
There were a few who had attempted to depict Anitha’s demise in poor light by taking the sacrifice out of her passing away. In the meantime, Ranjan of Chennai had filed a petition with the High Court of Madras stating that he had submitted a petition to Sendhurai Police Station to inquire into Anitha’s demise but it wasn’t acted upon. He further rquested the Court to order a detailed inquiry into Anitha’s demise.
Taking up Ranjan’s petition, the Court directed the police to find if there was any ground to file an FIR in the case and proceed with further interrogation. “If it was felt that there was no ground to proceed further in the case, a detailed investigation report would have to be filed with the Court,” it said.
