Dhanush Breaks Silence on ‘Raayan’ National Award Row: “Nobody Spoke When I Was Denied Recognition”

The controversy surrounding Raayan winning the National Film Award continues to dominate social media. A section of movie lovers has questioned the jury’s decision, arguing that critically acclaimed films like Meiyazhagan (released in Telugu as Sathyam Sundaram) and Maharaja were more deserving of the honor. Many even claimed that the award was given because of Dhanush’s stature rather than the film itself.

Amid the ongoing debate, Dhanush has finally reacted to the criticism with an emotional yet firm response. Without directly dismissing the opinions of critics, the actor pointed out that no one came forward to support him when several of his best performances failed to receive National Award recognition.

Speaking about the controversy, Dhanush said, “There is no doubt that Meiyazhagan and Maharaja are excellent films. But when films like Pudhupettai, Vada Chennai, Karnan, Maryan, and Raanjhanaa which I believe deserved National Awards were overlooked, nobody raised their voice or questioned the decision.”

He further added, “Today, nearly 90% of people are opposing the National Award for Raayan. But when films that truly deserved recognition in my career were ignored, not even 10% of these people spoke up for me. I’m not blaming anyone I just want people to encourage me instead of only criticizing me.”
