Mohamed Irfan, a well-known food vlogger and TV personality who rose to fame on Vijay TV’s "Cooku With Comali", is no stranger to controversy. However, his latest viral video, celebrating the birth of his first child, has landed him in legal trouble. The video, which shows Irfan cutting his newborn’s umbilical cord, has sparked outrage and drawn the attention of health authorities.
In the video, Irfan accompanies his wife to the hospital as she goes into labor, documenting the moments leading up to and following the delivery. During the birth, Irfan can be seen cutting the umbilical cord under the doctor’s guidance. While the video was meant to celebrate the joyful occasion, the act has raised serious concerns about safety and medical ethics.
Rajamoorthy, Director of Medical and Rural Health Services, confirmed that an inquiry will be launched. “Cutting a newborn's umbilical cord is a medical procedure that should only be performed by a doctor, surgeon, or trained nurse. What he did was inappropriate, and we will be issuing a notice seeking an explanation. Further action will be taken depending on his response,” he said.
What was intended as a personal and joyous moment has turned into a heated debate, with many questioning the legality and safety of Irfan’s actions. Health officials have emphasized the importance of following proper medical protocols to ensure the safety of both mother and child during childbirth.
This is not the first time Irfan has faced backlash from healthcare professionals. Previously, he stirred controversy after revealing his unborn child’s gender in a YouTube video, which he learned during a visit to a foreign hospital, sparking criticism for violating medical guidelines. The situation has reignited conversations about the need for stricter rules.
