Reports from ‘God’s Own Country’ i.e. neighbouring Kerala state that the Govt. is considering allowing people/devotees of all religions to enter the famed Sri Vishnu Temple in Guruvayur.

Taking a step ahead in breaking some unwa(rr)anted old-age traditions, Kerala recently appointed non-Brahmins as priests to work in temples under the control of Travancore Devasom Board. Taking social reforms ahead, it is now said that the Vijayan-led Communist regime is holding serious consultations in allowing people/devotees of all religions to enter the Guruvayur Temple, thronged by devotees all over the world.

Kerala’s move in appointing non-Brahmin priests is already hailed by many in Tamil Nadu and other States as ‘path-breaking’ and revolutionary. It may be recalled that Kerala has also told the Court that it was ready to allow women to enter the famed Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple.

It is also seen as significant and an encouraging trend that the chief priest of Sri Vishnu Temple in Guruvayur is part of the discussions to allow devotees of other religions into the temple.
