Kelly Clarkson's recent cover rendition received high praise from its original performer, Katy Perry.
After an empowering performance of her 2012 hit "Wide Awake" by The Voice alumni on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the song's interpreter, Katy Perry, reacted.
Clarkson's stripped-down performance, with accompaniment by a pianist, was well-received across social media and even by a fellow pop star. "Ok, dang, I can never sing that again," Katy Perry joked on the Instagram post that had a portion of Clarkson's performance.
Other celebrities, such as fellow American Idol alum Adam Lambert, also chimed in with supportive comments. Clarkson's former fiancé, now husband, watched from the audience at the Dolby Theatre as she took on "Wide Awake," a song that the pop diva had steadied at No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 2012.
It wasn't the first piece of mutual appreciation the pair publicly exchanged on social media. Last year, Perry lauded Clarkson's single "Daisies," to which Clarkson said, "Thank you. In June 2022, Clarkson put out an official EP with some of her favorite covers from the series, including songs such as "The One That Got Away" and "Roar" by Perry. "Kellyoke has turned into one of my favorite additions, just because I get to honor a bunch of other artists," Clarkson said.
