A 22-year-old woman was pushed into a well by her Instagram "friend," allegedly after she refused to marry him. She survived the fall, but spent three days inside the well with a fractured hand without food or water.

The incident has been reported in Bengaluru Rural district of Karnataka. The woman was rescued by by fire and emergency services personnel on Tuesday afternoon after a local heard screams coming in from the well. He alerted the police, who immediately arrived at the spot. The injured woman, who had survived without food or water inside the well, informed the police that she had been in there for three days and was pushed by a man she had befriended on Instagram over a month ago. They decided to meet in person upon the man's request. He allegedly asked her to marry him a while later. When she refused the proposal, saying that she is already married and also has a son, the accused pushed her inside a well and fled the spot. She survived the fall with a fractured hand and other severe injuries.

"I reached Devanahalli around 5.30pm and he picked me up on his scooter. He told me that he would show me his farmhouse and took me there. He started expressing his desire to marry me. I rejected his proposal, saying I'm already married and have a son. But he didn't listen and started forcing me to marry him. He threatened to kill me if I rejected his proposal and pushed me into the well. He fled the spot, cursing me that I die there," she reportedly informed the police. The accused has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
