The Twitter account of Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has been permanently suspended after she posted a controversial tweet regarding the post-election result violence in West Bengal. Kangana's account repeatedly violated the "hateful conduct and abusive behavior" policy of the platform, leading to Twitter removing her handle permanently.
Soon after the results of the West Bengal elections were declared and Mamata Banerjee led TMC secured a landslide victory, Kangana had sought imposition of President's rule in the state. Regarding the permanent suspension of her account, a Twitter spokesperson reportedly said, "We've been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behavior that has the potential to lead to offline harm. The referenced account has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter Rules specifically our Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy. As explained in our abusive behaviour policy, you may not engage in the targeted harassment of someone, or incite other people to do so. We consider abusive behavior an attempt to harass, intimidate, or silence someone else's voice."
However, accusing Twitter of racial bias, Kangana reportedly informed a news agency, "Twitter has only proved my point they're Americans & by birth, a white person feels entitled to enslave a brown person, they want to tell you what to think, speak or do. I have many platforms I can use to raise my voice, including my own art in the form of cinema." Kangana has a history of making controversial statements via Twitter as well as media, despite being constantly criticized for her reckless views by a large number of people of the country.
