Its been a week since the most celebrated Dravidian leader Kalaigniar Karunanidhi passed away and still tributes are flowing in from all parts ofthe world praising his artistic leanings, Tamil literature expertise, oratorial skills and his shrewd political acumen.
The Karunanidhi detractors often say that his real name was Dakshinamoorthy but DMK cadres have released a letter written to a bank by Kalaigniar’s father Muthuvel 72 years back. The claim is that it makes it clear that the name the patriach used till his death is the original. In the letter dated 16.1.1946 Miuthuvel has wrtten a requisition letter to his bank stating that due to his age (70) he is unable to walk and also his eyesight is bad and has requested the bank to transfer the 5 shares he owns to his heir and son Karunanidhi’s name.
The DMK cadres also dispute rival’s claim that Karunanidhi came to Chennai by illegally boarding a train as his family was quite well to do.
