In a shocking incident earlier today, a 19 year-old medical aspirant died by suicide apprehensive over the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET). The 19-year-old girl from Coimbatore was identified as Jothisri Durga, and was found hanging at her residence.

Jothisri Durga had left a suicide note left stating that she was apprehensive while her parents and others had high hopes on her. This death comes days after another medical aspirant in Ariyalur committed suicide, and now many TN political parties have strongly voiced out against NEET.

Following this, actor and Makkal needhi maiam president Kamal Haasan has tweeted "What has to be done to make the death of student Jothisri Durga as the last death due to NEET? The central and state governments must act swiftly and look for alternatives and implement them. It is our responsibility to give confidence and will power to our children. Let's do it".
